Thankful Thursday #44

Between Corona, helping our friend and working in the garden, there also was my Birthday. Celebrating is a little bit different this year because of Corona, but I think we figured it out – instead of having one big party, we had (and will be having) several smaller get togethers, and so far this worked for everybody 😃. This is one thing I am very thankful for: so much time spend with wonderful people (and furbabies, of course).

I am also very thankful for all the good things that happened between my last birthday and this one. It was hard work, but I had lots of help, and so many things got better. It was a year of growth and understanding, and I hope this will help me in the future.

Today I am very thankful I found ways to cope with this “new normal”. Of course Corona didn’t disappear magically and I am still afraid, but I am living again. That’s a lot!

I am also thankful for all the people who support me during this time, on- and offline. Surely life is difficult for all of us now, but they take the time to help me. I was able to help others as well, and for that I am grateful too.

I hope all of you are healthy and well. These are strange times, but we are not alone.

 

 

 

Thankful Thursday #42

Today I am thankful for the technical possibilities that allow us to stay in touch with all our loved ones even when we have to stay apart physically.

It is sometimes hard for me to practice social distancing, because it is very unlike me. I am no social butterfly either, but I love to meet family and friends. And working with my therapists helps me so much.

But I am still able to be close to the important people in my life. My therapists offer video calls, and messaging apps, mails and the old-fashioned telephone calls bridge the gap between myself and family and friends. We don’t know how long we will have to keep this up, but we can still be together in this: For this I am very thankful today. And also for everyone of you in Blogville ❤. We will get through this together.

Thankful Thursday #41

Today my OT therapist called me. She knows I have video calls with our group therapist, and she offered me to have video calls with her as well. She encouraged me to get creative and start a new project, so we can talk about it and she can guide me through it during our calls.

I like this idea a lot. A new project will help me getting distracted from this Corona mess. And I always like talking to her, she often helps me see things in a different way.

So today I am thankful for my therapists, who try everything to help their clients through this difficult time and stay at our sides.

 

Thankful Thursday #40

Today I am still thankful for the meeting with my pain doc yesterday. Both of us agreed I am coping well with my back pain at the moment and may not really need them at the moment :-). I am still on pain medication, but I don’t need opiods right now, and I have a good quality of life.

When I was leaving I told her I am so thankful for her and her team, they helped me so much. I also thanked her and the receptionist that they are still there for us patients in this difficult time. Spreading thankfulness makes bearing this Corona situation much easier.

Thankful Thursday #39

Today I am thankful I found my new therapy group. The first sessions were a little bit awkward, because the other participants have known each other for years and I was new. But all of us were willing to give it a try, and today I felt significantly more at ease.

Everybody in this group is absolutely honest and wants to help. At the same time, we feel safe enough to bring up very personal issues. I wasn’t sure at the beginning, but now I think I may profit a great deal from this kind of therapy. Maybe the decision to change from single to group therapy was right after all, even though I wasn’t too convinced when my therapist recommended it at the end of my last inpatient treatment 🙂

Thankful Thursday #38

Today I am very thankful for the hour I spend with with a former fellow patient I met during my inpatient stay in 2018. She had an appointment near the office where I had group therapy this morning, so we decided to have a coffee together.

We talked about everything that had happened in the last weeks, knowing that the other would listen without judgement. We have different battles to fight at the moment, but both of us know a sympathetic ear is just one call away. That’s so good to know. We felt so much better when we parted.

 

Thankful Thursday #37

The Thankful Thursday Blog Hop is hosted by Brian from Brian’s Home. He encourages us to say what we are thankful for today.

Today I am thankful for the first signs that spring will come. I saw the first snowdrops and crocus. Yesterday and today winter made a comeback and it snowed, but this will be over tomorrow, and then we can go back to spring again. The days have become significantly longer as well, and this is another sign spring is near. I just have to be patient a bit longer.

It has been a stressful week so far with my husband’s birthday and a big party ahead on Saturday, but knowing spring is just around the corner makes me feel better.

 

 

Thankful Thursday #37

Today I am thankful I feel well. I met a former fellow patient from my last inpatient stay this afternoon, and when he asked me how I was, I recognized I am very pleased with myself right now.

I know there is still a lot to do and a long way in front of me, but I feel I can do it. And this is what counts.

Today I am very thankful my first group therapy session went ok. To be honest, I was scared shitless. Of course I hadn’t slept well either, and this always makes things worse. The other people in the group know each other for years, and this is always a little bit awkward in the beginning. But they were friendly and tried to put me at ease. I hope time will help me to become a part of the group. But the most important thing is I made the first step and nothing really bad happened. We will see what happens in the future.
