Today I am thankful I feel well. I met a former fellow patient from my last inpatient stay this afternoon, and when he asked me how I was, I recognized I am very pleased with myself right now.

I know there is still a lot to do and a long way in front of me, but I feel I can do it. And this is what counts.

Today I am very thankful my first group therapy session went ok. To be honest, I was scared shitless. Of course I hadn’t slept well either, and this always makes things worse. The other people in the group know each other for years, and this is always a little bit awkward in the beginning. But they were friendly and tried to put me at ease. I hope time will help me to become a part of the group. But the most important thing is I made the first step and nothing really bad happened. We will see what happens in the future.

Today I am thankful for the therapists and doctors that taught me pain management. Pain management may be tricky, but it can be learned.

Yesterday I was in a lot of back pain, and I was grateful for every tool in my tool box. These tools didn’t lessen the pain per se, but I felt in control all the time and was able to go on with my life. My stress level was tolerable. Good pain management includes body, mind and soul, and it is more than popping pills.

But I wouldn’t know all these things without my wonderful team, and I am so grateful for having them in my life.

Today I am very thankful Health Insurance approved my new therapy! Now I can start with analytical group therapy. I have to say this was very quick and easy, I expected a longer waiting time with endless consultations. Well, seems I was lucky this time, and this is a big thankful.

Today I am very thankful for my GP. She really listened to me when I mentioned my heart issues. Of course she mentioned the possibility that the symptoms might be psychosomatic. But she also did a resting ECG, which showed a few extra heart beats. She said it’s probably nothing to worry about, but if the problem persists she will refer me to a cardiologist. I feel so much calmer now. It’s unlikely that is something seriously wrong with my heart. We will check on my thyroid next month, and I will mention it to my psychiatrist at our next meeting. Until then I will just keep on living.

Today I am just thankful for this day. The weather was so nice, sunny and relatively mild with a hint of spring in the air. The fifth preliminary talk with my new therapist went well, and we now have the paperwork ready, so we can send everything to health insurance. If everything goes well, I will start group therapy in about four weeks.

After that I went to my usual Thursday OT relaxation group, and it was exactly was I needed, because my neck and shoulders have been very tense and achy for the last days. After one and a half hour of PMR the pain was gone, and I was so relieved.

My pack was happy to see me, and now I am sitting on the couch  chilling. So what’s not to love about this day 🙂 ?

First, here is a picture of our new sofa. I wrote about it last week on Thankful Thursday:

When it is folded out, it is big enough for all of us. It’s wonderful to have that much space. Jackie is still upset because we changed something in her living room, but humans and dogs love it!

But I degress. Today I am very thankful for my new therapist. He is willing to argue with health insurance, so that the costs of the group therapy will be covered. Before I join the group, I have single therapy sessions with him. Our talks helped me to see that I may have problems, but I also have strength in me and can fight back. I am very thankful for that!
