It’s time for Feline Friday, hosted by Sandee from Comedy Plus!

During the eighteen years Sammy lived with us, many things happened… good and bad.

One of the bad things happened while we where vacationing on Lanzarote in 2001 and left Micky and Sammy with the in-laws. Nobody knows exactly how it happened, but Sammy got away. Once she was outside, she probably didn’t know what to do, because she found herself on foreign territory. She refused to go back, but she chose to stay close in a garden two houses away. The in-laws where at a loss and didn’t know what to do, but they decided not to tell us anything, so we could enjoy our vacation.

It was weird, but even though I was thousands of kilometers away I felt something was wrong. Sammy and I were that close.

Of course we were absolutely horrified when we heard what had happened, but we quickly came up with a plan. Sammy loved her food, and she had to be starved after almost two weeks in the wild. So we rented a cat trap from the local shelter, put some cat food in it, and after a few hours we had our Sammy back 🙂 When we brought her home, she was absolutely exhausted and slept on the couch for hours. After that she demanded we feed her, of course. What a wonderful happy end this adventure had!

Friendly Fill-Ins

I again participate in the Friendly Fill-Ins, hosted by Four-LeggedFurballs and 15andmeowing. So here we go:

1. I won’t pay more than € 5 for a six pack of batteries for my hearing aid.
2. The last time I recognized the days finally are getting longer was an hour ago. I love this about spring.
3. I recently had the opportunity to see a friend I don’t see that often. It was so good to reunite.
4. Every day that went well is cause for celebration in my book.

I know not everybody agrees with that, but our cats always were allowed to join us in our bed. There have never been any negative consequences, but the snuggle time was (and is) enjoyed very much by all. Kittens were born there, and Sammy died at this place – life happened.

On the other hand, the dogs are denied access to our bed, they have wonderful dog beds near our big bed, though. I want Jackie to know there is a place that is just for her and her humans. She gets the message, and our bed is the place where she stays most of the time (when she isn’t outside, of course).

Friendly Fill-Ins

I again participate in the Friendly Fill-Ins, hosted by Four-LeggedFurballs and 15andmeowing. So here we go:

1. I know spring is almost here when this special windy, wet and mild weather arrives in February or March.
2. I find the many lies confusing people often tell each other. The truth may not always be nice, but denying it doesn’t help.
3. I have a strong opinion on animal protection. They have feelings, they feel pain as we do, so I accept no excuses where this is concerned.
4. Miso soup is the strangest thing I have ever eaten. Miso is a japanese spice made from soybeans, grain, salt and mold, and is has a very unique taste.

This photo is not very clear or pretty, but we are happy nonetheless. Jackie really took her time warming up to the new sofa, but she made great progress in the last week. She still is not completely relaxed, and she still insists on a human pillow, but she comes and visits her pack more and more. Maybe we were right to let her set the pace. She is so proud and independent.

Friendly Fill-Ins

I again participate in the Friendly Fill-Ins, hosted by Four-LeggedFurballs and 15andmeowing. So here we go:

1. I am trying to work on my recovery and mental and physical health. It’s important I stay on track now.
2. I always feel comfy and safe when my pack is around.
3. Everything that spends kindness and happiness has my seal of approval.
4. I would not recommend messing with me when I am hungry. I can be a real bitch when my stomach is empty!

It’s time for Feline Friday, hosted by Sandee from Comedy Plus!

Meet Luna! She lives with our friend, her doggie sister Irmi (I already told you about her in 2018 AtoZ challenge) and her feline companions Mini, Shiva and Chris. Our friend tries to help animals who need a new loving forever home and walks shelter dogs like Truman. She loves her furry companions so much, I will never get tired of watching her interact with her pets.
Luna is a diva. She likes to sit on the dining room table or the chairs. Well, at least her fur matches the colour of the chairs 🙂 And she knows she is a beauty (she is a pure bread British Longhair). But at the same time she is quite trusting towards strangers and allowed us to feel her wonderful fluffy fur on more than one occasion.

Friendly Fill-Ins

I again participate in the Friendly Fill-Ins, hosted by Four-LeggedFurballs and 15andmeowing. So here we go:

1. I always carry batteries for my hearing aid with me. I always want to be prepared in case the battery runs out.
2. I would love to know why our dog Sam is always so protective of our home even when people are just passing by? Maybe he was treated badly in the past.
3. I express my love in the form of carrying out kind acts. I always try to guess what my loved ones need and how I can make their day better.
4. Snuggling with my husband and the furbabies makes me feel like the luckiest individual alive.

It’s time for Feline Friday, hosted by Sandee from Comedy Plus!

My hearing is very bad. I am deaf on the left ear since birth, and after a bad case of middle ear infection when I was five, I have to wear a hearing aid in my right ear as well. I don’t wear my hearing aid at night, so I won’t hear our pets barking or meowing then.

I am very sure Jackie knows when I can’t hear her. When she wants something and I don’t wear my hearing aid,  she makes sure she is in my line of vision (like in the picture) and shows me what she wants me to do (feed her, let her in the garden, whatever 🙂 ). I don’t see her mouth moving in these situations, so my guess is she doesn’t meow. Usually she is very vocal, but she she seems to know exactly when this won’t work.

I don’t think Jackie is an exception. Guide dogs or therapy horses have to figure out different ways of communication with humans as well. I know I always say this, but our pets are so clever!

Friendly Fill-Ins

I again participate in the Friendly Fill-Ins, hosted by Four-LeggedFurballs and 15andmeowing. So here we go:

1. I wish I could tell my teenage self “Yes, your life won’t be easy, you’re right about that. But there will also be wonderful moments and lots of love, so don’t be afraid!”

2. I think the most romantic movie is Shakespeare in Love. Such a great cast, and such a strong female lead.

3. This afternoon was the last time I enjoyed the bright sunlight. It had been a while, and the days are becoming longer, it was wonderful.

4. People being mean to each other happens too often.

It’s time for Feline Friday, hosted by Sandee from Comedy Plus!

A few weeks ago I told you about Sammy, and how she liked to hide in our sports bags.

Well, like mother, like daughter. Our sports bags were standing open in the bedroom, so they could dry. I hadn’t seen Jackie for a few hours and went looking for her (I check on the furbabies on a regular basis, I like to know they are well). I looked everywhere, I didn’t find her and I got worried… Then I went to the bedroom again, and found her lying in my husband’s bag. The bag is black, so Jackie was difficult to see, and she never had been hiding there before. Obviously she had been sleeping, she looked at me like “Why are you running through the house and calling my name all the time?! I just want to take a nap!” My husband just groaned “Cat hair even in my gym bag…” when I told him. But of course we love her anyway ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.

Friendly Fill-Ins

I again participate in the Friendly Fill-Ins, hosted by Four-LeggedFurballs and 15andmeowing. So here we go:

1. My favorite quote is “Just remember, you can do anything you set your mind to, but it takes action, perseverance, and facing your fears” by the wonderful Gillian Anderson. It’s so important to really go after your dreams and not give up easily.

2. My favorite part of February is my husband’s birthday! He will turn 50 this year, and we will celebrate with family and friends.

3. A little known fact about me is that I am afraid of being rejected by people, because I always tell the truth as I see it.

4. When an animal that has given up on humans starts trusting you and loving you back – this is the most rewarding experience in the world.

Sorry, this picture is blurry because Jackie won’t let me get nearer with my mobile, and I had to take this picture through the glass door… Cats…

It doesn’t matter the terrace doesn’t look the same anymore since we had worked on it last summer, Jackie still prefers the same spot in the right corner. I think it’s because she can overlook the garden from there. She insists on doing this even in the winter, at least three times a day. Not that here is much to see or to guard, the dogs have made it pretty clear this garden is ours. But she always looks so serene and calm when she sits there, so we let her. Whatever makes her happy 🙂

Friendly Fill-Ins

I again participate in the Friendly Fill-Ins, hosted by Four-LeggedFurballs and 15andmeowing. So here we go:

1. I am particular about what I see on TV. Once I have seen gruesome things, they stay on my mind for a long time, and this can cause great distress.
2. My main goal in life is to take care of my loved ones, two- and four-legged.
3. Seeing my husband for the first time is a moment I will never forget. At least I hope so!
4. Have you ever heard of the ability of pets to keep their humans healthy?

Jackie still doesn’t like the new sofa, and we don’t force her. Maybe our friend is right, she suggested Jackie doesn’t like the “new” smell on it. We’ll see how it will turn out.

In the meantime, Jackie insists on spending the nights in our bed, between our pillows. I am glad she feels safe with us. Sometimes I am afraid we could crush her between us, but it is like we are always aware of her, even while sleeping. And in the morning I enjoy waking up next to her small, warm body.

I hope Jackie will someday join us on the new sofa, but until then I will gladly take our nightly snuggle sessions.

Friendly Fill-Ins

I again participate in the Friendly Fill-Ins, hosted by Four-LeggedFurballs and 15andmeowing. So here we go:

1. I could not have my coffee without milk. It’s to hard on my stomach if I drink coffee without it.

2. A simple pleasure I enjoy is having coffee in bed every morning.

3. If I could change one thing about myself, it would be stopping eating too much.

4. Honesty is hard to find these days.

When Jackie was younger, she loved to greet us sitting on the garage when we came home, especially when it was dark. After saying hello, she liked to jump down on the car that was standing in front of the garage… This wasn’t so good for the car’s surface, of course! But Jackie was so quick, we couldn’t stop her. She is more careful now, but you can still see the scratches on my husband’s car 🙂

Friendly Fill-Ins

I again participate in the Friendly Fill-Ins, hosted by Four-LeggedFurballs and 15andmeowing. So here we go:

1. When I am with my husband and my furbabies, I always feel loved and safe.
2. I want to be there for my loved ones, two- and fourlegged.
3. No one knows me better than my husband, my parents and the furbabies.
4. That our home is a safe place for all of us is a thought that crosses my mind often.

Feline Friday #73 | Friendly Fill-Ins Week #189

It’s time for Feline Friday, hosted by Sandee from Comedy Plus!

I am so glad Jackie is with us, because the circumstances surrounding her birth were horrible. This was shocking, because the pregnancy was so wonderful, and Jackie’s mother Sammy let me touch her belly and feel the kittens move so often.

At some point we knew something was wrong, because Sammy had been in labor for hours and was screaming with pain, but no kitten was born. I called our vet, and he told me not to worry and just wait a little longer (such an idiot! We never trusted him with one of our furbabies again).

Finally, Jackie was born. But Sammy was still in so much pain, she wasn’t able to take care of her. She still had contractions, but no other kitten came out.

We didn’t bother calling the vet again, we put Sammy and Jackie in a box and drove to the next clinic. The doctor did an exam, gave Sammy an injection and told us to go home, she said the contractions should become stronger now and the other kittens should be born soon.

This was true, but it was too late. The other two kittens were stillborn. We don’t know what was wrong, or if we could have saved them by going to the vet earlier.

But Jackie was alive, and after everything settled down Sammy began to take very good care of her. Our other cat Micky helped, and so did we humans, of course. And very soon we decided that we would keep Jackie, we really felt a strong connection with her.

It was the beginning of another wonderful love story!

Friendly Fill-Ins

I again participate in the Friendly Fill-Ins, hosted by Four-LeggedFurballs and 15andmeowing. So here we go:

1. My plans for the weekend include celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary. I can’t believe we have made it so far.
2. You will never find fancy clothing in my home. We both prefer jeans.
3. I hope I always will share my life with furbabies. It means so much to me.

4. I hope I never will make wrong decisions where my loved ones (two and four legged) are concerned.
